Loon with Young

$50.00

Gavia Immer are near and dear to my heart. If I conjure up my personal image of the most peaceful moment, it's on or near the water at twilight, with a loon sounding off in the distance—a long, mournful song, followed by "tremolo," which sounds something like chortling, musical laughter. They are divers, built long and sleek, with graceful necks and dagger-like bills, black all over with white spots on their back and wings, white underside, and in vertical bands around their neck. They can dive to a depth of up to 60 meters (200 feet), swim under water for up to 5 minutes, and have been recorded swimming as fast as 20 mph. You may have noticed in this image, that mama has her eye protectively trained on you; please note: so does baby chick!

Fine Art Print
10 x 6.875" image area
8.5 x 11” sheet
Printed with archival inks
